Kathy Chao is a fiction writer and data scientist based in New York.

Her stories, which incorporate elements of historical, speculative, and traditional “literary” fiction, have been published in the Georgia Review, the Kenyon Review, Strange Horizons, and elsewhere. A Southern California native, she now lives in Queens, New York, where she is working on a historical mystery novel set amid the political upheavals of the 15th century Timurid empire.
